Partial preterist here, and this is the best recommend book I
have found called Victorious Eschatology by Harold Eberle.. Make sure you order
the 2nd edition, which includes the Book of Revelations.

In
addition to my previous comments below, if we know that most if not all systems
are corrupt, then we know it is not about the system. It is not about the
church we belong to. As good as they can be they are at best , inadequate. So
what we do is bring influence into the systems the Lord has placed us in…
Organizations, churches, businesses, families, communities..etc. Remember that
we must never be “of” the systems anyway. We are to be
“of” Jesus, and “of” His Kingdom, while merely being in
the world and in the systems around us. That way we can understand those who
may be assigned to bring His presence to the Catholic church, the Baptist
church, Microsoft, Government, Emerging Church, Church on 4th and
“Vine, Church at Jim’s house…whatever. Encourage and love
every believer, regardless of the system… It is not about the systems,
but it is all about the Kingdom of God in power upon the earth. I like this
quote by William Law…
“If you have not chosen the Kingdom of God, it will in the
end,
make no difference what you have chosen instead.”
And
finally
If the
Kingdom of God is anything, and it is EVERYTHING, it is RELATIONAL,
Supernaturally RELATIONAL!

The answer
is simple but complex based on the filters of life we have all been brought
through.. There is a King, and He has a Kingdom. He has given us the keys of
that Kingdom and the power of His Spirit to live and move and have our being
within it. Every System, which includes churches, government , family, business
systems sometimes begin with good intentions but then begin to seek control of
those within them. It literally can be viewed as a principality, because the
leaders themselves are in bondage, while they place systematic bondages on
others.
My
fear is, that the “emerging church” will fall victim to this
pattern as well, because they just labeled themselves as a another distinct
system. The more we can build as family without incorporating, which is often
hierarchical, the more we can be free to live Kingdom, impart Kingdom, and set
the captives free, as carriers of His presence.

To ask
if Paul gave prescriptive advice on how to properly run the Roman Empire is
quite anachronistic if we think that a direct application of Paul's actions are
relevant today. How would Paul act in a liberal democracy? I think
it would be a bit different. Even Paul appeal to the 'system' of his day
to find safety. Was it not Paul appealing to his 'pagan' citizenship to
secure safety and a fair trial?
