Details
Come watch the new documentary "Purple State of Mind" and discuss it afterward with one of the film's producers/directors/"stars" (and Charlotte native) Craig Detweiler!
Craig is also co-director of the Reel Spirituality Institute at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. His first book, A Matrix of Meanings: Finding God in Pop Culture, connects the dots between movies, music, TV and the divine. It has been adopted as the standard text in the field of theology and pop culture on college campuses around the world. He's also got a new book coming out called Soul Meets Body: Faith in the Internet Movie Database. (see full bio here)
Lawrence Toppman, film critic for The Charlotte Observer recently described the movie as "Irreverent, accusatory, supportive, blunt, profound."
Peter Blackstock at NO DEPRESSION magazine called Purple State: "Heated, humorous, vehement, compassionate, and most of all relentless."
Christianity Today: "Purple State of Mind is about as honest a dialogue on the things that both divide and unite us as you will find. With authenticity that doesn't pull punches and intimacy that never loses sight of the big picture, the film recognizes that the conversation, not the conversion, is the commonality."

"I think this is a fantastic documentary. It's expertly put together. The content, while some of it may be deemed "too offensive" to some people's sensitive ears/minds, was incredibly current and crisp -- dare I say, "relevant" to our lives and the time that we live in. I highly recommend "Purple State of Mind" for other groups/audiences that are willing to listen in (with open minds and hearts) to two friends talking candidly about belief and the issues that surround belief in this country.
