For anyone who's interested, I've started a short series just sharing some of my personal history with Emergent Village, which goes back to 1999 (the part I talk about in this first post):

It's always interesting to me to peek in on the little reality show that is "Emergent" to me. It's like having watched a show being filmed, but not really being in it. I ended up taking the bunny trail tour through Jason's blog to Brad Cecil's, which I found truly entertaining and enlightening.
At the end of the day, if I must land somewhere, i'd say i'm still "emerging", and will probably never hit Emergent (kinda like that mathematical concept of an infinitely approaching line that never intersects - what's that called again? I flunked calculus. ) I had a fascinating conversation with a former pastor of mine this past week, who is no longer on staff at a church; is in search of a faith community that is relevant and meaningful for his family; and is rereading Brian's books with fresh eyes at this point in his journey. I recognized so many of my own early questions and struggles in his words, and I did my best to encourage him that though the road ahead feels truly scary, it is burgeoning with the promise of hope and meaning and new depths of faith and relationship that is worth every moment of seeming peril. It was a huge moment in my life, this turnabout; one of many i've experienced as part of this "great emergence", however it is named or defined by those with the need to do so. I want to thank you Steve, for being my primary point of entry into the friendship/conversation. I mean this with all my heart - God has used you and the many dear people i've met along this Way the last three years to save me, all over again. Love and peace, Magenta |
