"I love the community we've developed from across denominations and backgrounds. God is doing a beautiful work knitting us together as his Church here in the Charlotte area. This is a safe place -- and one of the only places -- where this conversation is taking place here in this region, so it's important and needed. I hope more and more people continue to find this group -- not because "size matters," but because of the encouragement and the challenge that comes from our dialogue and living our lives together openly and honestly."

The Emerging Church Discussion Group is part of the Indie Allies network. The Indie Allies Meetup (subtitled "Independent Christian Thinkers") was started by Spencer Burke of TheOoze.com as a way to bring people together around the topics of postmodernity and the Christian faith. We're wrestling with questions like "What is the Gospel?" and "What does it mean to be the Church in emerging culture?" The Emerging Church Discussion Group is also the official Charlotte-area EmergentVillage cohort group.
Ultimately, it is our desire for this group to be a place of "refuge" for people from various backgrounds who are wondering, "Am I crazy? Am I the only one who thinks like this?" The answer is, No. There are plenty of folks around Charlotte who are wrestling with the same things you are. And it's our desire for this Meetup group to be a place where we can come together and build relationships around these important issues.
